Terrifying robbery on Harare-Mutare Highway leaves truck driver shaken

In a brazen incident along the Harare-Mutare Highway, two armed robbers wielding machetes targeted a truck driver at Mufusire Uphill, making off with a significant sum of money, footwear, and even a gas tank. The police have launched an appeal to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

The victim, Daniel Ticharima, 38, was accompanied by his assistant driver, Elsom Muchineuta, during the harrowing ordeal. Fortunately, both drivers managed to escape unharmed physically, but the psychological impact of the incident is undoubtedly significant.

According to Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, the incident unfolded as Ticharima was transporting a load of chrome in his truck. As fate would have it, the vehicle experienced a mechanical failure, forcing him to bring it to a halt at Mufusire Uphill.

“Ticharima was driving his truck that was carrying chrome along the Harare-Mutare Highway. Upon arrival at Mufusire Uphill, the truck developed a mechanical fault and it stopped.

“The driver disembarked from the truck to check on the radiator. The two accused emerged from the gum plantations. One was armed with a sjambok, while the other had a machete.

“One of the accused persons assaulted Ticharima once on the right cheek. The two accused searched the driver’s pockets and took away US$325. They got into the truck and took away US$75. They disappeared from the scene,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
