Police in Gokwe have launched an investigation into a suspected murder case following the grim discovery of a naked woman’s body floating in a sewer pond at Gokwe Centre on Tuesday. The body, which exhibited visible bruises, was found by a 17-year-old boy from Dzavo Village under Chief Njelele while he was herding cattle.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, stating that the body belonged to a woman estimated to be between 18 and 21 years old. The discovery was made at approximately 6 PM on January 9.
“I can confirm a suspected murder case in which an approximately 18 – 21-year-old woman was found dead, floating in a sewer pond at Gokwe Centre on January 9 at around 6 PM,” he said.
Upon finding the body, the young boy hurriedly informed other villagers, who subsequently reported the incident to the police. Authorities promptly retrieved the body from the sewer pond. During the initial inspection, fresh bruises on the woman’s waist and back were observed. The victim was unclothed, with only a torn undergarment found nearby. It is suspected that she may have been ƨǝxuɑlly assaulted before being killed.
