Bail denied for Mbare man accused of selling beer to minors on Christmas Day
In a recent development, Phaeteon Mutiyaya, a 23-year-old man from Mbare, has been denied bail after being accused of selling beer to minors on Christmas Day. Mutiyaya appeared before the Mbare Magistrates Court on Thursday, and his case has been adjourned until January 11, when a possible trial date will be determined.
According to reports, Mutiyaya, who operates a shebeen in Mbare, allegedly sold beer to a group of 11 minors, as seen in a viral video showing them consuming alcohol in Harare’s Central Business District. The minors involved in the incident include three aged 7, three aged 10, and five others aged 5, 9, and 11. All of them are residents of Nenyere Flats in Mbare.
Mutiyaya’s case has attracted public attention due to the viral video, which shed light on the underage consumption of alcohol and raised concerns about the availability of such substances to minors. The legal proceedings surrounding this case will play a crucial role in addressing these concerns and ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to protect vulnerable young individuals from harmful situations.
