In a shocking incident that unfolded in Bulawayo’s Sizinda neighbourhood, residents claim that an unidentified man was found dead in a maize field near Sidojiwe flats on Thursday afternoon. According to their accounts, the man was allegedly shot by a National Railways of Zimbabwe security gunguard after being caught in the act of stealing copper wires at the Westgate Station.
The incident drew a crowd of curious onlookers, with scores of residents jostling to catch a glimpse of the lifeless body. Police were swiftly alerted and arrived at the scene by 4 pm. Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele is expected to release a statement concerning the incident later today, providing official details and clarifications.
While the investigation is still ongoing, a resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared an account of the events leading to the fatal shooting. According to the resident, the deceased individual was in the company of two other suspects when they were confronted by the security guard. In an attempt to evade capture, the man was allegedly shot and killed on the spot, while his accomplices managed to flee the scene.
“The man who was in the company of two other suspects was shot dead while trying to escape.
His two accomplices ran away,” he said.
