In a shocking incident last Friday, a lone armed robber targeted a private college in Masvingo, pretending to seek enrollment for a Form 1 student. The assailant vanished after forcefully stealing US$22,800 at gunpoint, along with two cellphones and two laptops.
The brazen robbery occurred in the Mucheke D area of Masvingo, leaving both the college owner and the local community in a state of shock. The unidentified suspect entered the college premises, armed with a pistol, under the guise of searching for a place for a new student. However, as soon as the robber gained access, he attacked the victim and swiftly made off with the substantial sum of money, leaving behind a trail of fear and uncertainty.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the National Police spokesperson, confirmed that investigations into the incident are currently underway.
“The ZRP is investigating a robbery case which occurred in Mucheke D, Masvingo, on January 5, 2024, where an unknown suspect, who purported to be looking for a place for a Form 1 student at a certain college, went to the college owner’s place while armed with an unidentified pistol.
“He attacked the victim and stole US$22 800, two cellphones and two laptops,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
