Tragic Incident: Teenager commits suicide after discipline by mother
In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on New Year’s Eve, a 17-year-old teenager tragically took his own life by hanging himself from a tree branch. The sh0cking turn of events occurred after the young boy, identified as Tatenda Nyamunda, was disciplined by his mother, Ms Lucia Mhlanga, for allegedly stealing US$14. The incident has left the community of Chanyamwaka Village, located in Chief Muusha’s area, in a state of profound grief.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, has confirmed the distressing occurrence. Tatenda’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a tree branch a few kilometers away from their family homestead, subsequent to his mysterious disappearance.
According to reports, Tatenda faced disciplinary action from his mother, who employed a switch to administer punishment across his body. She accused him of pilfering the aforementioned sum, which she had left on the table in her bedroom. Following the incident, Tatenda vanished from the homestead, prompting his mother, Ms Mhlanga, to raise the alarm and seek assistance from fellow villagers.
In the early hours of December 31, a young girl, aged eight, stumbled upon the lifeless body of Tatenda hanging from a sturdy tree branch. Overwhelmed by the distressing sight, she immediately rushed to inform Ms Mhlanga, who wasted no time in reporting the tragic event to the local authorities.
Upon initial examination, no visible injuries were observed on the deceased. Consequently, the need for a post-mortem examination was waived by the relevant authorities.
