Tragic accident claims life of dedicated doctor
Another tragic accident on Zimbabwe’s roads has resulted in the loss of yet another life. Tinotenda Madzima, a 30-year-old doctor serving at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, was killed in a freak accident while walking along the Harare-Chirundu Road on Wednesday.
According to police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Dr Madzima was struck from behind by a loose wheel that had detached from a passing haulage truck. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a fatal road traffic accident involving a Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Government Medical Officer, Tinotenda Madzima (30) which occurred on February 3 at about 0700 hours at the 116 kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road,” Nyathi said.
“The doctor was walking along the road when he was hit on the back by a wheel which had dislodged from a Scania haulage truck which was travelling towards Harare. The victim died on the spot.”
This incident comes just weeks after another life was lost under similar circumstances. Constable Mironga of the Marondera Traffic Police died after also being struck by a loose wheel from a haulage truck on the Harare-Mutare Highway. Her death, like Dr Madzima’s, has underscored the urgent need to improve road safety standards in Zimbabwe.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Dr Madzima as they mourn this tragic loss.
