Figtree man jailed for assaulting woman who rejected his love proposal
A Figtree man has been sentenced to two years in jail after assaulting a woman who turned down his love proposal. Levison Dube appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware at the Plumtree Magistrates’ Courts, where he faced charges of malicious damage of property and assault.
Dube pleaded guilty to the charges, and the court heard that the incident occurred on January 20 of the previous year. Dube approached his neighbour and made a love proposal, claiming he was ƨǝx starved. However, when the woman rejected his advances, Dube violently assaulted her.
The severity of the assault led to the woman being rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. However, while she was still admitted, Dube returned to her house and set it ablaze. The fire resulted in the destruction of property worth approximately US$3,000.
While incidents of this nature are deeply troubling, they serve as a reminder of the importance of respectful and consensual interactions. Rejection should never be met with violence or destruction. The court’s decision to impose a jail sentence reflects the seriousness of the offenses committed by Dube.
