Altercation over unpaid gumboots turns tragic: Guruve man fatally assaulted
In a devastating turn of events, a dispute over gumboots resulted in a fatal assault that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man in Guruve. The incident occurred on Monday when the victim, Isaac Kusikwenyu, confronted his colleague, Bayisai Scotch (28), who had allegedly refused to pay for the gumboots purchased from Kusikwenyu’s mother.
According to reports, an altercation erupted between the two men as tensions escalated over the unpaid debt. In a fit of rage, Scotch reportedly struck Kusikwenyu with a log, inflicting a fatal blow. Tragically, Kusikwenyu succumbed to his injuries on January 2, 2024.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and provided details surrounding the case. Bayisai Scotch was subsequently arrested by the Guruve police in connection with the murder.
“The suspect had refused to pay for gumboots which had been sold to him by the victim’s mother,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi stated.
The shocking incident has left the community in Guruve reeling, as they grapple with the senseless violence that unfolded over a seemingly mundane dispute. The loss of a life over a disagreement regarding payment has sparked outrage and sorrow among locals.
