Chamisa believes God will restore opposition’s victory amidst election dispute
Nelson Chamisa, the leader of Zimbabwe’s opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), continues to assert that his party was unjustly denied victory in the 2023 elections. In a recent message, Chamisa expressed his confidence that God would intervene and restore their win, despite their controversial loss to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
During his campaign, Chamisa had promised his supporters that the CCC would come to power in the 2023 harmonized elections. However, he disputed the results, alleging collusion between the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and the ruling party ZANU PF to manipulate the outcome in Mnangagwa’s favour. Chamisa cited several irregularities, including delayed voting and voter intimidation by Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ). These concerns were also acknowledged by both local and international observers.
In his New Year message, Chamisa urged his supporters to remain steadfast in their pursuit of change and transformation in Zimbabwe. Despite feeling robbed of victory in 2023, he maintained his faith that God would restore their position. Chamisa declared:
“A 2024 FULL OF SURPRISES… As we begin a new year, I encourage you to stay focused on the promise. We were robbed but God is a RESTORER. We keep the faith. Indeed 2023 was the year. Let 2024 be the year of vindication!
“Wishing you abundant blessings, unprecedented wins and record-breaking gains this 2024.. Our goal is single and simple; to make change happen and transform Zimbabwe unto greatness. Declaring unto Zimbabwe incredible successes in reforms, unimaginable strides in unity and spectacular victories in peace and restoration!! It’s a pleasant surprises-filled 2024. May God gracefully guide, guard and glide you. Flourish and Shine! A Happy 2024 with sparkle and cheer everyone! #Godisinit”
As Zimbabwe progresses into 2024, the political landscape remains in flux. Chamisa’s unwavering faith in divine intervention and his commitment to peaceful means of change continue to shape the opposition’s path forward. The ongoing dispute over the 2023 election results underscores the deep divisions within Zimbabwean politics, with both sides advocating for their respective approaches to bring about a transformative future for the nation.
