Manhunt launched in Tsholotsho after fatal marital dispute leaves two dead

Police in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, have initiated a manhunt for Shepard Nkomo (38) following a tragic incident on January 1. Nkomo is accused of killing his wife, Getrude Ncube (36), and their neighbour, Mhlanga Bahono Mkhiza (73), after a heated marital dispute took a deadly turn.

According to Inspector Glory Banda, the Matabeleland North police provincial spokesperson, the altercation erupted when Nkomo suspected his wife of engaging in an extramarital affair. The situation quickly turned violent as he allegedly assaulted Ncube, prompting her to seek refuge with their neighbour, Mkhiza.

Tragically, the confrontation escalated further. Ncube was fatally struck by an unidentified object, succumbing to her injuries on the spot. Mkhiza attempted to intervene and restrain Nkomo, but he too fell victim to a violent blow to the head, resulting in his immediate demise.

Upon hearing of the distressing incident, members of the Magogodleni community and neighbouring residents rushed to the scene. Regrettably, Nkomo had already fled, and remains at large as the police intensify their efforts to apprehend him.

Inspector Banda stressed the importance of cherishing and safeguarding life, urging citizens to value their own well-being and take responsibility for guiding younger generations. He emphasized the role of parents and guardians in nurturing children from an early age, fostering an environment that discourages violence and promotes harmony.
