Tragic accident claims the life of two-year-old boy in Kwekwe

In a heart-wrenching incident just hours before the New Year, a two-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a truck in the Amaveni Suburb of Kwekwe. The young child, identified as Nkosinamandhla Dube, was walking alone on an unnamed road around 8 PM on December 31, 2023, when the accident occurred.

According to the police, preliminary investigations reveal that Nkosinamandhla was hit by a Toyota Dyna lorry driven by Peter Dzama (29). The impact resulted in severe head injuries, prompting immediate action. The toddler was rushed to Amaveni Clinic, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries upon admission.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, expressed his condolences while highlighting the importance of responsible driving. He urged motorists to exercise utmost care and diligence, emphasizing the need to prioritize the safety of vulnerable road users, especially young children.

Inspector Mahoko also called upon parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s movements, particularly during evening hours. The incident raises concerns about the level of supervision and care provided to young children, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

“Preliminary investigations established that the boy was run over by a Toyota Dyna lorry which was driven by Peter Dzama (29). He sustained head injuries and was rushed to Amaveni Clinic where he died upon admission,” said Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

“The fact that the two-year-old boy was run over by a motor vehicle walking alone at 8 PM, raises the need for improvement on the level of potential care and supervision of young children,” said Inspector Mahoko.
