Car theft foiled as suspect caught enjoying beer at Filabusi nightclub

In a swift turn of events, a 43-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a Honda Fit vehicle that he had hired, only to be found enjoying a beer at a nightclub in Filabusi on New Year’s Eve.

The suspect, identified as Roy Ncube, reportedly hired the victim to provide transportation to a business center when the incident occurred. According to a statement issued by Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, on December 31, 2023, the Filabusi police apprehended Ncube in connection with the theft of the motor vehicle from a certain nightclub.

The victim parked his car outside the establishment, leaving the keys in the ignition while he stepped inside to purchase some drinks. Unfortunately, this momentary lapse in security provided an opportunity for the suspect, who was left alone in the vehicle, to seize the chance and drive off with the Honda Fit.

However, the authorities’ vigilance proved fruitful as the suspect’s joyride was cut short. Ncube was later apprehended by the police after he was found indulging in a beer at Theleka Business Centre. The stolen vehicle has since been recovered, thanks to the prompt response by law enforcement.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining caution and security, even in seemingly safe environments. Leaving keys in the ignition, even for a brief moment, can create an opportunity for opportunistic criminals to strike. This case highlights the need for vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure the proper safeguarding of their vehicles at all times.
