Tragic accident claims two lives and injures five along Masvingo-Mutare Road
In a devastating incident on Saturday morning, two individuals lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries when the Toyota Fortuner they were traveling in veered off the road and overturned along the Masvingo-Mutare road. The accident occurred at the 226km peg around 6 am.
The deceased victims were identified as Previous Maonde (19) and Paul Taruvinga (19), both hailing from Bikita in Masvingo. Tragically, they succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Silveira Mission Hospital. The injured, including the driver, were promptly transported to the same medical facility for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa expressed his condolences and shed light on the details surrounding the accident. According to Inspector Dhewa, the driver, James Taruvinga (32), was travelling towards Mutare when he lost control of the Toyota Fortuner. As a result, the vehicle veered off the road, overturned, and eventually landed back on its wheels. The cause of the driver’s loss of control is yet to be determined, but Inspector Dhewa urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during this period when roads can become slippery due to the rainy weather conditions.
