Devastating floods wash away Sesame bridge, cutting off Gokwe North and South

In a grim turn of events, the Sesame Bridge, a vital link between Gokwe North and South in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, has been washed away due to relentless heavy rains. The destruction of the bridge has left travelers in a state of disarray, prompting authorities to urge the use of alternative routes until the bridge can be repaired.

The confirmation of the incident came from Mr Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, who shared the news on his official X account. Mr Mangwana expressed his concern by stating, “Sesame Bridge which links Gokwe North and South has been destroyed by the incessant rains. Travellers should be aware.”

The loss of the Sesame Bridge has compounded the already dire situation caused by extensive flooding, resulting in numerous families being displaced from their homes. The Department of Civil Protection has reported significant damage to houses across the country, with some structures collapsing under the weight of the heavy rains that have engulfed several districts.

As travellers navigate the disrupted transportation situation, it is important to exercise caution and stay informed about alternative routes. The safety and well-being of individuals remain paramount as the communities come together to recover from the aftermath of the floods and rebuild what has been lost.
