Comic Pastor faces trial for alleged physical abuse against ex-wife
Epworth Magistrates’ Court has commenced the trial of well-known comedian Comic Pastor, real name Prosper Ngomashi, who stands accused of repeatedly abusing his ex-wife, Munyaradzi Mavura, during their one-year marriage.
The couple separated nearly five years ago, and Mavura has now come forward to pursue legal action against her former spouse.
Testifying before Magistrate Jesline Madaka, Mavura explained that she had delayed taking action in the past due to a lack of awareness regarding her rights. However, she has now mustered the courage to seek justice for the alleged abuse she endured during their marriage.
Comic Pastor, who pleaded not guilty, is scheduled to present his defense on Friday. Represented by his legal counsel, Phyllis Mudekwa and Tafadzwa Muvhami, the comedian intends to argue that Mavura’s accusations stem from bitterness over his success.
According to Mavura’s testimony, she endured significant suffering throughout their marriage. She claimed that she would be physically assaulted whenever she had arguments with Noddy, who was Comic Pastor’s girlfriend at the time and is now his current wife.
“Kurohwa then became almost a normal thing. The abuse continued in different forms, but the beatings were the worst,” Mavura alleged.
The trial of Comic Pastor highlights the complex dynamics within intimate relationships and the importance of addressing issues of abuse, regardless of the accused individual’s public persona or professional success. The outcome of this trial will have significant implications for both parties involved and may contribute to broader conversations about domestic violence awareness and prevention.
