Police officer arrested for alleged rɑpe of Grade 7 pupil in Matabeleland South

A startling incident unfolded at Plumtree Magistrates Court as a 32-year-old police officer stationed in Mphoengs, Matabeleland South province, found himself facing serious allegations of rɑpe involving a Grade 7 pupil.

To protect the identity of the minor, the accused officer’s name has been withheld. He appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who ordered him to remain in custody until January 9, advising him to seek bail at the High Court.

The prosecution detailed the alleged incident, claiming that on December 19, the 14-year-old complainant visited the ZRP Mphoengs quarters in search of tomatoes. Knocking on the officer’s door, she sought directions to where tomatoes were being sold within the camp. Shockingly, instead of providing assistance, the suspect forcefully pulled her into his room and proceeded to rɑpe her.

Distraught and traumatized, the young victim confided in her mother, who wasted no time in accompanying her to the police station to report the heinous assault. The community, deeply disturbed by the incident, demands swift justice for the victim and accountability for the accused officer.
