Shurugwi man arrested for allegedly murdering wife over stolen US$250
A man from Dlemiti Village, Chief Nhema in Shurugwi, has been apprehended by police in the Midlands following the alleged murder of his wife.
Lonyaka Mulambi, 43, stands accused of killing his wife, Runyararo Midzi, after accusing her of stealing his US$250.
According to the Mirror, the tragic incident came to light when Midzi’s lifeless body was discovered by her 14-year-old stepdaughter on Friday morning. The young girl, on her way to school, knocked on Midzi’s door but received no response. Concerned, she entered the room and was met with the shocking sight of her stepmother’s lifeless body lying on the floor, hands and legs bound to the bed with rope.
Neighbours were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene, subsequently reporting the matter to the authorities at ZRP Tongogara. Upon closer examination, police officers noted a deep cut in Midzi’s stomach. They also discovered a note, allegedly written by Mulambi, confessing to the murder as a result of the stolen money.
Efforts to apprehend the suspect proved successful on Saturday around 6 pm when Mulambi was found sleeping in a nearby bush close to his homestead. He was promptly taken into custody by the police.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, seized the opportunity to appeal to the public, urging them to refrain from resorting to violence when attempting to resolve disputes. He emphasized the tragic consequences that often accompany such violent acts, resulting in the loss of precious lives.
