Manhunt launched after fatal beating over missing donkey in Kezi

Kezi was struck by tragedy when a dispute over a missing donkey took a deadly turn, resulting in the alleged beating death of a man by his cousin.

The incident unfolded on December 14, as Brian Sibanda (45) reportedly assaulted Melusi Ncube (42) with an unidentified object during a confrontation. Sibanda is now evading capture, and authorities in Matabeleland South have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.

Confirming the distressing incident, Inspector Loveness Mangena, the spokesperson for the Matabeleland South provincial police, provided insight into the altercation that took place.

According to Inspector Mangena, the confrontation occurred at Nhlalo Business Centre around 8 PM. Brian Sibanda approached his cousin, Melusi Ncube, as they resided together, and inquired about the whereabouts of his missing donkey. Sibanda accused Ncube of selling the animal, igniting a heated argument between the two.

Despite Ncube denying any knowledge of the donkey’s whereabouts, tensions escalated rapidly. Sibanda allegedly unleashed a violent assault on Ncube, employing an unidentified object as a weapon. The incident drew the attention of bystanders at the business center, who intervened and managed to restrain Sibanda from inflicting further harm.

Ncube was promptly rushed to Maphisa District Hospital in a critical condition, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries upon admission.

Inspector Mangena urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating Brian Sibanda, emphasizing the importance of non-violent resolutions to conflicts. She further encouraged individuals to refrain from resorting to physical altercations when faced with disputes.
