Three students from TelOne Centre of Learning in Harare have been accused of leaking examination papers, leading to their appearance before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi. Elton James, Kudzai Shepherd Chimutsa, and Bradley Mangombe, all aged 23, were remanded out of custody on bail of US$50 each.
The allegations arose when Josephine Muzhangiri, representing TelOne Centre of Learning, received information last Friday about leaked examination papers being circulated within the institution. In response, Muzhangiri initiated internal investigations, which soon uncovered that Nicolet Rukasha and Princess Gunduza, both Part 1.1 students, were in possession of the leaked HEXCO Engineering Mathematics Paper 1. Notably, this exam had been written the previous day at the institution.
Upon questioning Rukasha and Gunduza, it was revealed that they had purchased the leaked examination paper from Mangombe and Chimutsa. Subsequently, Muzhangiri approached Mangombe, who led her to Chimutsa. It was Chimutsa who then disclosed that he had obtained the paper from Elton James, thus resulting in their subsequent arrest.
Instances of leaked examination papers not only undermine the educational system but also compromise the future prospects of honest students. The authorities are working diligently to stamp out such malpractices and hold those responsible accountable. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly serve as a stern warning to potential wrongdoers and reinforce the importance of upholding academic honesty.
