78-year-old gogo fatally attacked by unknown assailant in Gokwe North
Police in Gokwe North, Midlands Province, are currently conducting a thorough investigation into a horrifying incident where a 78-year-old woman fell victim to a fatal axe attack by an unidentified intruder.
The distressing case unfolded on December 1, at approximately 9 PM, in Village Murozvi, Nembudziya. Gogo Aleta Tsvangirayi, who was sleeping alone in her bedroom at the time, became the target of this senseless act of violence.
According to Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Gogo Tsvangirayi was present at her homestead alongside her daughter-in-law, Bvunzai Gandanga (47). The two retired to separate huts for the night. Gandanga reportedly heard Gogo Tsvangirayi engaged in a heated argument with an individual, questioning how the person had managed to enter the securely locked bedroom.
Alarmed by the commotion, the daughter-in-law promptly sought assistance from neighbours. Together, they returned to the scene, only to discover Gogo Tsvangirayi lying unconscious, having suffered a brutal axe assault. The intruder had already vanished, leaving behind a shroud of mystery regarding their identity and gender.
Tragically, Gogo Tsvangirayi succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Her lifeless body was subsequently transported to Gokwe North District Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
