Tragic Loss: Funeral held for five-year-old boy slain by mother’s married lover
In a heart-wrenching ceremony at Granville Cemetery this past Saturday, family, friends, and members of the community gathered to bid a tearful farewell to young Emmanuel Tinenyasha Mauka.
The five-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a brutal act of violence perpetrated by his mother’s married lover. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and a fervent call to end the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV).
A sea of mourners flooded Mukumbadzetse Street, including devoted supporters of Dynamos FC, vendors from Samuriwo shopping centre, and concerned residents of Mufakose. Together, they stood united in paying their final respects to little Emmanuel, their presence serving as a powerful testament to the overwhelming grief felt by the community.
Emmanuel’s untimely demise was the result of a harrowing conflict that unfolded between his mother, Needmore Mauka, and her married partner, Thomas Nyamhunga. The brutal act of violence, committed in cold blood, has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, prompting a renewed determination to put an end to such senseless acts.
John Matibiri, chairperson of the Mufakose Youth Development Committee, and Agatha Chiseya, chairperson of the Mufakose Community Development Trust, spoke to H-Metro about the community’s response to this tragedy. Together, they have organized a march to raise awareness about the dangers of GBV and to demand justice for Emmanuel. The demonstration is scheduled to take place this Friday, and they are calling upon all members of the community, including church leaders, to join them in their quest to combat GBV.
Agatha expressed the purpose and urgency of the forthcoming demonstration, stating, “We have organised a demonstration against GBV this Friday following the murder of Emmanuel,” said Agatha.
“Police Victim Friendly Unit and other stakeholders will be with us to campaign against GBV, so we are inviting people, including church leaders, to join us in the march.”
The planned march aims not only to protest the tragic loss of young Emmanuel but also to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of GBV. By joining forces with law enforcement and various organizations, the community seeks to send a resounding message that violence, particularly against innocent children, has no place in society.
