In a tragic turn of events, Mison Sere, a former winner of the “Mr Ugly” competition, has passed away at the age of 51.
Reports indicate that he collapsed while using the toilet at his family home in Mabvuku. According to Danny Sere, the family spokesperson, it is believed that his death may be attributed to the consumption of illicit drugs and alcohol.
“Mison has been abusing drugs and drinking illicit alcohol for some time,” said Danny.
“At one time, he would show signs of mental disturbances due to drugs.
“He would move around looking for houses where people are gathered for funerals.
“There was no funeral gathering around Mabvuku, which he didn’t attend, just for beer only.
“He would spend more than three days camped at a funeral.
“Chainyanyorwadza ndechekuti ainwa tudoro utwu asinakudya,” Danny told HMetro.
Mison Sere gained fame for winning the title of “ugliest person” on four occasions, outshining the inaugural victor, William Masvinu. However, his 2015 victory was marred by controversy, as some individuals disputed his inclusion among the contestants. They argued that his only noticeable physical feature was missing teeth, making him ineligible for the “ugly” category.
In light of Mison Sere’s passing, aspiring Mabvuku legislator Scott Sakupwanya stepped forward to offer support to the grieving family. Sakupwanya donated mealie-meal, meat, tomatoes, and vegetables to assist with the funeral arrangements.
As friends, family, and the community mourn the loss of Mison Sere, the focus shifts toward honouring his memory and raising awareness about the perils of addiction.
