Witchdoctor’s house raided: Murder suspects arrested in Kwekwe cleansing ceremony gone awry
In a shocking turn of events, four individuals suspected of committing a gruesome murder found themselves in police custody when their attempt to cleanse themselves of the crime at a witchdoctor’s house in Kwekwe took an unexpected twist on Sunday.
Learnmore Chiribani (28), Archford Dube (20), Marshal Chuma (19), and Marvellous Kuchicha (19) were apprehended following a tip-off to the authorities. The suspects were allegedly involved in a fatal stabbing incident that occurred at a nightclub in Silobela the previous Friday, claiming the life of Ernest Moyo (28) amidst an undisclosed altercation.
The swift action by law enforcement led to the discovery of crucial evidence as a result of the arrests. Among the items recovered were three knives: a Columbian knife, a VI pin stainless steel kitchen knife, and an okapi knife. These weapons, believed to have been used indiscriminately during the murder, were concealed in a plastic bag hidden beneath a block brick behind the witchdoctor’s residence.
Providing an update on the matter, National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi shed light on the arrests and subsequent recovery of the incriminating items. The suspects had sought the services of the witchdoctor for a supposed cleansing ceremony, aiming to absolve themselves of the heinous act they had committed. However, their plans were thwarted when the police acted on the tip-off, bringing the suspects to justice.
In a separate but similarly disturbing case, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi revealed that a suspect identified as Maphios Mativenga (40) was apprehended by police in Zvishavane. Mativenga was implicated in the death of Simbarashe Moyo, whose lifeless body was discovered inside a Honda Fit vehicle parked at an abandoned residence in Mudereri Village, under Chief Masunda. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, accusing him of having an affair with his wife.
