A mob of outraged villagers in Seke, Mashonaland East, took matters into their own hands when they confronted an armed robber as part of a four-member gang that had been terrorizing the community.

The assailant, identified as Tatenda Mhonda (31), was eventually handed over to the police after the villagers were done with him.

According to a statement released by the police, Mhonda was arrested in Mungate Village, Dema, for the illegal possession of a Browning pistol. The gang, armed with iron bars, had been targeting residents in Mungate Village when they attacked a villager who sought help from the public. In response to the victim’s cries for assistance, the mob swiftly apprehended Mhonda while the other suspects managed to escape. The recovered pistol was found to have an empty magazine.
