CCC Candidate Relaunches Campaign After Ally’s Killing
The tragic murder of a CCC activist has not deterred the party’s candidate in the Mabvuku-Tafara constituency from pressing ahead in the upcoming December by-election.
Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi looked set to pull out of the race after the brutal abduction and killing of Tapfumaneyi Masaya, a key figure assisting his campaign. Masaya went missing on November 11th while conducting door-to-door canvassing, and his body was discovered two days later.
At Masaya’s funeral on Saturday, the grief and anger was palpable. But Kufahakutizwi has found renewed resolve, vowing to honour his late supporter’s memory by securing victory on December 9th. “Pastor Masaya will not have died in vain,” he declared, determined to “bury Zanu PF” at the ballot box.
The murder has heightened tensions in Mabvuku-Tafara. Police say investigations are ongoing but no arrests have been made.
In August, Kufahakutizwi convincingly defeated Sakupwanya. His re-election bid now takes on symbolic importance in standing up to the intimidation some fear is targeting the community. With the campaign relaunched, all eyes are on whether Kufahakutizwi can translate his – and Masaya’s – passion for change into another triumph at the polls.
