In a tragic incident that occurred over the weekend, a 23-year-old man named Tinevimbo Nyika from Gokwe was arrested after a violent altercation with his father resulted in the older man’s death.
According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police, the suspect accused his father, Mr. Aison Nyika (69), of practicing witchcraft and creating chaos within the family.
The confrontation took place at their homestead in Kufazvinei Village, under the jurisdiction of Chief Chireya in Gokwe. Allegedly, Tinevimbo confronted his father, and in the heat of the argument, Mr. Nyika struck his son’s leg with a metal rod. In response, Tinevimbo managed to disarm his father and proceeded to assault him with the same rod.
Tragically, the situation escalated further when Tinevimbo used the rod to pierce his father’s stomach, causing severe injuries and leading to his immediate death. The brutality of the act shocked fellow villagers. The authorities promptly arrived, and Tinevimbo was taken into police custody.
The body of Mr. Aison Nyika was transported to the Gokwe District Hospital mortuary for further examination. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“It is alleged that on the fateful day, the two were at their homestead in Kufazvinei Village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe when Tinevimbo confronted his father, Mr Aison Nyika accusing him of witchcraft and causing havoc in the family. Mr Nyika picked a metal rod and truck Tinevimbo with it on the leg.
“He then used the rod to pierce the father into the stomach and drew out his intestines killing him on the spot,” said Insp Mahoko.
