Children of the war veterans will benefit from the Zimbabwe Ex-Combatants (Zexcom) Foundation Investment Fund Limited as a form of empowering them and to preserve the legacy of their parents, board chairman Cde Crispen Mashayamombe has said.

Zexcom had invested in various sectors of the economy to enhance the future earnings of war veterans’ and their dependants.

The investments were in the form of properties and included shareholding in various local companies.

The investment boasts of properties such as Equity House in Harare, mining companies across the country, security company with the children of war veterans employed in these companies

Some of their children today graduated with certificates in security to protect their investments.

Those who are highly qualified are employed in different disciplines within the investment fund

“I am ready to ensure that Zexcom operates professionally and serves the interests of its members. I need to ensure the investments of the war veterans are protected and benefit their children,’’ said Cde Mashayamombe.

Zexcom finance director Cde Ruth Kumbirai Mhlandla said they will consider gender balance in their recruitment.

Cde Charles Chifamba, who is the director for security said they want their children to come on board and work at the investment fund.

“We are recruiting the children of war veterans in our investment portfolios so that they benefit from the sweat of their parents. This is the form of empowerment which we are giving them,” said Cde Chifamba.

In 1998, nearly 4 000 ex-combatants pooled their resources together, each depositing their contributions through the then Kingdom Bank to form the company, which by 2001, was valued at $15 million.
