In a tragic incident last night, a devastating head-on collision between a Toyota Quantum and a truck on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road resulted in the loss of 22 lives, while two individuals sustained injuries.
The accident took place near Thandweni Store at the 27km peg around 10 pm.
Regrettably, all the passengers onboard the Toyota Quantum, including the driver, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The two injured individuals were occupants of the DAF truck involved in the collision. They have been admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospital for medical treatment.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the National police spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence of the accident. He stated, “The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on November 14, 2023, at around 2200 hours at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road near Thandweni Store in which 22 people were killed whilst two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board.
“The injured victims are admitted at United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals. More details to be released in due course.”
