Tragedy struck the community of Murwira village under Chief Marange as three individuals lost their lives while digging a well.
The victims, two members of the Chiramba family and a neighbour, tragically suffocated due to the fumes of dynamite they had used to blast rocks in the well.
According to Taurai Chiramba, a family member, the three individuals had been working together to deepen the well. After setting off a blast with dynamite, they descended into the 10-meter well. Unfortunately, the air inside the well proved to be asphyxiating, and all three succumbed to the lack of oxygen.
Taurai recounted that Forward, one of the victims, was the first to enter the well but did not return. Isaac, their nephew, followed after a period of silence, and Tawanda entered the well last. Despite the efforts of Gift to retrieve them, it was too late to save their lives.
The incident has left the villagers devastated, as the loss of three lives has cast a shadow of sorrow over the community. The use of dynamite in the well-digging process proved to be a fatal mistake, highlighting the importance of taking necessary precautions and ensuring safety measures are followed in such endeavours.
