Tragic road accidents claim six lives in Midlands Province
In a devastating turn of events, two separate road accidents in the Midlands province have resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including a driver, as confirmed by the local police.
The initial incident occurred near Zhombe Shopping Centre along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police, revealed that a head-on collision between a Mercedes Benz and a Hino truck led to three passengers losing their lives. Fortunately, five others managed to escape with varying injuries. The accident transpired around 7 PM on Tuesday.
According to Inspector Mahoko, the Mercedes Benz, carrying six passengers and driven by an unidentified motorist, was heading towards Kwekwe. Simultaneously, the Hino truck, driven by Saniwel Nhete and without any passengers, was travelling in the opposite direction. As the Mercedes Benz attempted to overtake a haulage truck, it inadvertently encroached into the oncoming lane, resulting in a catastrophic collision with the Hino truck.
The collision inflicted severe damage upon both vehicles, tragically claiming the lives of three individuals, including the Mercedes Benz driver, at the scene. The police promptly arrived at the site, and the bodies were transported to the mortuary at Gokwe South District Hospital. The five injured passengers received immediate medical attention at the same hospital.
The second accident occurred at the 80km peg along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on Saturday, approximately at 5:30 PM. Inspector Mahoko reported that a Honda Fit vehicle, en route to Masvingo, veered off the road, overturned several times, and ultimately landed on its roof. This calamity resulted in the deaths of three individuals while leaving two passengers and the driver injured. One of the passengers succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Zvishavane District Hospital.
Luckson Dube, a 20-year-old, was driving the ill-fated Honda Fit, carrying five passengers. As they reached the aforementioned point on the road, the vehicle suddenly veered off to the right side, initiating a series of rollovers that tragically claimed the lives of two passengers on the spot.
The third passenger passed away after being admitted to Zvishavane District Hospital. The bodies of the deceased, identified as Charles Takuva (20), Perpetual Huriwa (17), and Promise Sichumi (18), were transferred to the aforementioned hospital.
