Jealousy is a powerful emotion, but it should never be used as an excuse for violence. In a recent incident in Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb, a man has been arrested for assaulting his wife with a cellphone due to suspicions of infidelity.
Kaurane Nkomo, a 44-year-old man, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa, facing a charge of assault. He pleaded guilty to the offense and was remanded in custody for sentencing.
When asked about his actions, Nkomo expressed remorse and apologized to the magistrate, mentioning that he had already spoken to his wife about the matter.
According to the court proceedings, the incident occurred on October 25 at around 7 pm. Sihle Sibanda, Nkomo’s 38-year-old wife, was using her cellphone when her husband arrived home. Nkomo snatched her phone and attempted to call a specific number, but there was no answer. This triggered his anger.
In a fit of rage, Nkomo struck Sibanda’s left cheek with the cellphone, causing her to bleed profusely. Although she did not seek medical attention, the matter was reported to the police, leading to Nkomo’s subsequent arrest.
It is essential to recognize that acts of violence are never acceptable, regardless of the circumstances. Instances like these serve as reminders of the importance of addressing conflicts and suspicions through peaceful and constructive means.
