In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded on November 3, 2023, a mother has been arrested following the death of her nine-year-old daughter, Ropafadzo Meki, in Shamva, Zimbabwe.
The tragic incident occurred at Maxton Farm and has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to the police statement released on Twitter, Sinalence Kufandirori, aged 35, allegedly subjected her daughter to a severe beating using a switch. The motive behind the assault was reportedly a result of the child’s involvement in a game known as amatope or mahumbwe. This game involves children imitating adult roles, such as those of parents and children, and mimicking daily activities such as food preparation, preservation, and conflict resolution.
Authorities claim that Sinalence Kufandirori resorted to physical assault, striking her daughter all over her body with a switch, following an incident where the child used mealie-meal and cooking oil to play the game. Tragically, the assault proved fatal, and Ropafadzo Meki lost her life while being transported to a local self-proclaimed prophet for assistance.
Law enforcement swiftly apprehended Sinalence Kufandirori, who now faces charges of murder in connection with the incident.
