Citizens Coalition for Change candidates who were previously recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu but have today submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming by-elections on December 9 using the party’s name are in violation of a standing High Court ruling.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is urged to reject their papers.
According to Tshabangu, the self-imposed interim party secretary general, the expelled individuals no longer possess the authority to utilize party symbols or claim to represent the CCC. Their membership was revoked and this action was further validated by the High Court.
He expressed surprise if the individuals’ nomination papers were accepted under the premise of representing the CCC. If ZEC does accept these papers, Tshabangu stated that legal recourse through the appropriate channels would be pursued. As of now, he awaits the decision at 4pm.
It remains to be seen how ZEC will handle the situation and whether the individuals in question will be allowed to proceed as candidates for the upcoming by-elections.
