A tragic incident occurred in Zvishavane yesterday, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man. The unfortunate event unfolded after a dispute over a mere US$9 in change.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Insp Emmanuel Mahoko, the victim, Ellias Makamu, had purchased a plate of Sadza from the suspect for US$1, tendering a $10 note in the process. However, Makamu did not receive his rightful change.
When Makamu inquired about the missing change, a heated argument erupted between him and the suspect, identified as Coleen Takawira. The altercation took a violent turn when Takawira resorted to stabbing Makamu with an unidentified sharp object, causing him to collapse on the ground.
Makamu suffered profuse bleeding and was rushed to the hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead upon admission.
