Police in Masvingo have made a significant discovery, recovering 102 marijuana plants after apprehending a villager suspected of cultivating the illegal herb on the banks of Mutirikwi River.

The arrest was made following a tip-off regarding Ekem Chari (37) from Tevera Village, under Chief Murinye.

Masvingo province’s Acting Provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Lorraine Ndlovu Chanakira, confirmed that the confiscated mbanje plants ranged in height from 50 to 150cm. The plants have been seized as evidence and will be presented in court.

In a separate incident, three individuals were also arrested at Dikitiki Business Centre, under Chief Murinye, for either selling mbanje twists in their shops or possessing them for personal use.

The Masvingo police force remains committed to its ongoing crackdown on drug and substance abuse, with further efforts expected to be made to address this issue effectively.
