Harare woman still missing after alleged kidnapping over cellphone theft accusation
The search continues for a 25-year-old woman, Chipo Agushoto, who was reportedly abducted last Friday by a group of five individuals.
The incident took place in Eastview, Harare, where Chipo resides with her husband. The suspects allegedly accused Chipo’s husband of stealing a cellphone belonging to one of them.
According to police reports, the abduction occurred around 11 p.m., and law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the case. The suspects involved in the incident have been identified by the police, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and appealed for public assistance in finding Chipo. He stated that the suspects forcefully entered Chipo’s residence, assaulted her while she was asleep, and then abducted her. The exact whereabouts of Chipo remain unknown at this time.
“Police in Harare are appealing for information which may assist to locate Chipo Agushoto aged 25 of Phase 2, Eastview who was allegedly abducted by Estha Nekate aged 47, Gurai Mahacha aged 50, Munashe Makechemu aged 23, Edwin Makawa aged 27 and Edwin Mate on October 13, 2023 at around 11pm.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim who was asleep in a room while accusing her husband of stealing a cellphone belonging to one of the suspects. The victim was taken to an unknown destination. Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
