Man arrested for illegal possession of live pangolin found in vehicle
In a recent incident, law enforcement authorities apprehended a man for the unlawful possession of a live pangolin. The protected animal was discovered concealed in a black satchel, strategically placed on the passenger seat of a grey Nissan Tilda vehicle. The arrest took place on Saturday at the 40km mark along the Harare-Mukumbura road.
According to an official statement shared on social media by the police, Douglas Chikandiwa, aged 35, was taken into custody during a routine security checkpoint search. The authorities stopped and inspected the grey Nissan Tilda that Chikandiwa was driving, leading to the discovery of a live pangolin concealed inside a black satchel positioned on the front passenger seat.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed Chikandiwa’s arrest in connection with the illegal possession of the live pangolin. The pangolin, known for its protected status due to conservation concerns, was seized as evidence. The suspect now faces charges related to the possession of a protected species.
