On Saturday, Brains Muchemwa, the chief executive officer of OXLINK Capital, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on charges of threatening to shoot his wife. He accused her of allegedly bewitching him. Muchemwa, 44 years old, was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 7.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on September 2 at around 5 PM when Blessing Muchemwa, the accused’s wife, was on her way to pick up their children from school. During this time, Brains Muchemwa tried to reach her through phone calls, but she missed them due to poor network coverage.
Upon Blessing’s return home around 10 PM, her husband confronted her, accusing her of using witchcraft to bewitch him. Allegedly, he threatened to physically assault her and even mentioned that he would publicize their fights on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), displaying no fear of consequences.
In response, Blessing apologized and explained that she was not involved in any form of witchcraft against him. However, this only seemed to anger Brains Muchemwa further. He reportedly punched her four times on her shoulder before mocking her, stating that he could continue the abuse because she needed to be freed from the alleged demon possessing her, which he believed required the use of force.
Furthermore, Muchemwa allegedly threatened to shoot his wife and even disclosed his intention to commit suicide after murdering her.
Following the incident, Blessing reported the matter to Highlands Police Station, and she was subsequently referred to a hospital for a medical examination.
