A local businessman was tragically killed in an apparent robbery gone wrong in front of his home Tuesday night. Calisto Muzumbi operated several shops in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and lived in the Entumbane neighbourhood.

According to his brother Clatos, three unknown assailants ambushed Calisto as he parked his car around 11pm. When neighbours heard struggling, they initially thought it was regular noise until Calisto screamed for help shouting ‘amasela’. Though neighbours turned on lights, the attackers fled, leaving Calisto bleeding from stab wounds.

Severely injured, Calisto managed to make it to his back door and handed his bag to his wife before collapsing. In the commotion, a red wool hat with a black star engraving was dropped and recovered at the scene.

Sadly, efforts to rush Calisto to the hospital proved too late. He passed away after arrival at Mpilo Hospital. Investigators surveyed Calisto’s Entumbane shop for possible leads.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said they had not received an official statement as yet.
