A 47-year-old man from Gweru has been taken into custody after allegedly strangling his one-year-old stepdaughter while she was left in his care by her mother, who had gone to fetch water from a nearby borehole.
The Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed that the stepfather, Itai Ticharwa, was apprehended following the tragic incident that occurred over the weekend in Mkoba Village 4.
The body of the girl has been taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.
