Tragedy struck in Mashava this morning as a Cessna plane carrying six individuals crashed at Peter Farm in the Zvamahande area, claiming the lives of all those on board. The aircraft, believed to be owned by Rio Zimbabwe Company, is suspected to have encountered a technical issue, leading to the fatal incident at approximately 8 am.
Reports suggest that the ill-fated plane was en route from Harare to Zvishavane, with intentions to collect diamonds. However, before reaching its destination, the aircraft experienced the suspected malfunction, ultimately resulting in the devastating crash.
Upon arrival at the scene, The Herald news crew witnessed a sombre sight as local authorities, led by Masvingo Officer Commanding Operations, Assistant Commissioner Florence Marume, painstakingly combed the area in search of scattered body parts. The scattered debris indicated the possibility of a mid-air explosion preceding the crash, further deepening the tragedy.
Masvingo Fire Brigade officers were also present, carefully sifting through the wreckage in an effort to retrieve the dismembered remains of the victims who had become trapped in the devastating aftermath.
Eyewitnesses recalled the misty weather conditions at the time of the incident. They described the plane making unusual noises and seemingly circling in one spot before the tragic crash occurred, sending shockwaves through the community.
