Deadly Fire Breaks Out at Iraqi Wedding celebration
Over 100 people lost their lives in a horrific fire that erupted during a wedding party in northern Iraq last night. Dozens more were injured in the inferno that quickly engulfed a crowded events hall in the town of Hamdaniya.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing lit flares accidentally ignite the building’s ornate ceiling around 10:45pm, which then collapsed as panicked guests scrambled to escape. Videos shared on social media show the flames rapidly spreading across the glittering decor as people danced joyfully moments before. Another clip captured a couple still in their wedding attire as burning debris fell around them.
Civil defense workers searched through the charred rubble deep into the early morning hours, finding over 100 victims amid the smoldering ruins. Over 150 people suffered injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Nineveh’s deputy governor placed the current death toll at 113 but warned it may rise further.
The interior minister revealed the hall was constructed using highly flammable materials, fueling the fire’s swift advancement. Four arrest warrants have been issued for the owners as officials launch investigations. President Abdul Rashid called for answers on what went so wrong.
Survivors recalled the terrifying scene as flames exploded through the building. Aid and emergency crews worked through the night to care for victims and determine what ignited this unspeakable tragedy.
