Music Producer Removed from Remand in Revenge Porn Case
A Harare court recently removed Zimdancehall music producer Rodger Kadzimwe, known professionally as DJ Levels, from remand status. The artiste, represented by lawyer Dumisani Mtombeni, was facing charges related to the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
DJ Levels and his ex-girlfriend Shashl had briefly dated last year, according to court documents. However, their relationship ended amid irreconcilable differences. One night, at a nightclub, DJ Levels approached Shashl in an attempt to rekindle their romance. When she refused his advances, the producer allegedly threatened her with unspecified action for her decision.
Presiding Magistrate Ruth Moyo ruled the state should proceed with summons. Citing the facts presented, she removed the remand status. Commonly known as “revenge porn,” sharing intimate photos of an ex without consent violates privacy and trust.
As the case continues through due legal process, this latest development allows DJ Levels to await further hearings from a position of liberty rather than incarceration. With a popular profile in Zimbabwe’s music arena, the resolution provides an opportunity for fair and transparent handling of serious accusations within the framework of the courts.
