In a distressing incident that unfolded in Maphisa, Kezi, Matabeleland South province, a man was reportedly killed by a mob consisting of more than 20 individuals on Monday.
The incident occurred following an alleged armed robbery committed by the now deceased individual, Hloniphani Ndlovu (45), the now deceased, who was armed with a firearm, targeting a group of individuals.
The suspects involved in the case, namely Tamsanqa Nyathi (22), Perfect Nyoni (22), Godswill Dube (21), Somandla Ndlovu (17), Lodrick Hloniphani (24) from Malindi village in Kezi, and Mkhululi Ncube (39), Prince Nkosilathi Khumalo (32), and Makesure Mguni (33) from Mangala village in Kezi, have been apprehended and are scheduled to appear in court.
According to BMetro, after the robbery took place, the suspects allegedly collaborated and pursued Hloniphani Ndlovu. They caught up with him, subjected him to a severe assault, and later handed him over to the local police in Maphisa. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was promptly transferred to a hospital. Unfortunately, he tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted.
At present, the motive behind the assault and subsequent death remains unclear, although speculation suggests possible revenge for the earlier robbery. Official confirmation is pending from the authorities.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena, has confirmed the incident to BMetro and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing the authorities to handle such cases.
