Chinhoyi Mourns Death of CCC Councillor
The community of Chinhoyi is mourning the sudden loss of Councillor Patricia Chibaya, who passed away this week at a local hospital. Chibaya had just been re-elected in Zimbabwe’s August elections to serve a second term representing Ward 2 on Chinhoyi Council.
According to reports, the youthful councillor was in her early 40s and died after being rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital with symptoms of a mild stroke and migraine. Mayor Owen Charuza expressed deep sh0ck and sadness upon learning of Chibaya’s death, saying the whole town is still coming to terms with the devastating loss.
Chibaya first took office as a councillor in 2018 to represent her community as a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change party. After the recent elections, mourners gathered at her family home to pay their respects. As required by law, Chinhoyi will now hold a by-election to fill the vacancy left by Chibaya’s untimely passing.
The councillor had rising political career, having been elected deputy mayor earlier this year. Friends say she hoped to retain the position but was nominated for another role by her party. Now, the community remembers Chibaya fondly for her commitment to public service and representing constituents in Ward 2. Chinhoyi mourns the loss of a dedicated young leader gone too soon. Arrangements for the by-election will be announced in due course.
