Four identified after boat accident in Kariba

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed the identities of four men who tragically lost their lives in a boating accident on Kariba lake last weekend.

According to Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident occurred near Tsetse Island around midday on September 16th, when the small boat carrying the men sank under unknown circumstances. The bodies of two Zimbabwe National Army officers, Sergeant Tatenda aged 36 and Corporal Nxobile Ncube, as well as two local men, 24-year-old Trust Phiri from Chilimba Village and 40-year-old Adson Mupiringano from Batonga, were recovered from the water over the next two days.

Next of kin were contacted and assisted the police in formally identifying the deceased. The remains were transported to Kariba District Mortuary.

In a statement, Asst Comm Nyathi remarked on the tragedy and urged members of the public to take precautions and ensure safety when utilizing informal water transport like dinkies on Kariba lake.
