In a devastating turn of events, a boat capsized on Lake Kariba on Saturday, leaving four people missing. The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson, Mr Tinashe Farawo, expressed that search and rescue operations were underway.
According to Mr Farawo, the boat carrying five occupants encountered the unfortunate accident. Fortunately, one person was rescued by local fishermen, while the remaining four individuals remain unaccounted for. A team of divers has been diligently conducting search and rescue efforts to locate the missing individuals.
The survivor, who was found clinging to an empty container, was discovered by fishermen who promptly provided assistance. However, details surrounding the cause of the accident are currently limited, and further investigations are required to ascertain what led to the boat capsizing.
Local fishermen in the area have mentioned the possibility of a significant wave contributing to the incident. However, the exact factors behind the tragic event await clarification.
It is disheartening to note that this incident follows a similar tragedy in July 2021 when five lives were lost due to a boat capsizing on the same lake.
