Plumtree Policeman Faces Charges for Allegedly Tipping off Armed Robbery Suspect
In a recent development, a police officer based in Plumtree has found himself in hot water after being accused of tipping off a suspect involved in an armed robbery and attempted murder case.
Kudzai Hativagone, the officer in question, appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware last week and pleaded not guilty to the charges of defeating the course of justice.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on August 8 of this year when detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department’s homicide division were actively seeking Simelweyinkosi Dube in connection with multiple cases of armed robbery and attempted murder. It is alleged that Hativagone, who is believed to be a friend of Dube, took it upon himself to inform the suspect that law enforcement agents were closing in on him. Furthermore, Hativagone allegedly advised Dube to flee from Plumtree.
The police became aware of Hativagone’s alleged misconduct and subsequently apprehended him. The case is currently in progress, with further proceedings pending at the courts.
