Three suspects have been arrested by the police in Gweru on murder charges after a man, recently released from jail, was fatally assaulted. The incident occurred when the victim, Roy Mbiba (35), confronted one of the suspects, Godfrey Ncube (34), accusing him of being a witness in the court case that led to his imprisonment.
According to Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the now-deceased Mbiba armed himself with an iron bar and went to confront Ncube. Mbiba struck Ncube with the iron bar, and then Nkulumani Ncube (34) and Zwelani Nkomo (37), who are now his accomplices, joined in the assault. They disarmed Mbiba and proceeded to beat him with their hands and feet.
As a result of the attack, Mbiba fell unconscious and was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
